Mumbai was one of the most important cities in British India, but when independent India needed a national capital, Delhi was chosen because of its central location in North India, historical importance, political legacy, and strategic position.
From the Delhi Sultanate to the Mughals and the British, Delhi had long been the center of power on the Indian subcontinent.
🌍 Mumbai became India’s financial capital. Delhi became its political capital.
Sometimes geography and history shape nations more than economics.
